Mr. Dewey Lee Alexander, 69, of 818 Parliament St., died June 27, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Alexander was born March 2, 1933, in Pickens County, to Charles and Agnes Golightly Alexander. He had been a High Point resident for the past 31 years, having moved from Sumter. Mr. Alexander was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea. He received the National Defense Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Alexander served in the 110th Quarter Master Bakery Co., and was enlisted in the Quarter Master School of Baking. Mr. Alexander was a self-employed insurance agent and later worked as a courier. He was a member of Oakview Baptist Church. In earlier years he had been active in working with the Boy Scouts of America and was a former Mason. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and crossword puzzles. On Nov. 22, 1962, Mr. Alexander was married to the former Sylvia McKellar, who survives of the residence. Also surviving are two sons, Scott McKellar Alexander and David McKellar Alexander, both of the residence; two grandchildren, Zoe Alexander and Summer Alexander; three sisters, Wilma Landress of Seneca, Doris Shirley of Greenville, and Nancy Hearn of Dunwoody, Ga.; and three brothers, Edward Alexander of Seneca, Rod Alexander of Smyrna, Ga., and Gene Alexander of Virginia. A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point, conducted by the Rev. Jeanette Robertson, MA.
