D. Ruth Miller, 84, of Avalon, N.J., passed away on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Miller was born on June 3, 1928, in Elizabeth, N.J., to Frederick and Dorothy Elsasser and later graduated from the Syracuse University School of Nursing in 1949. She worked as a nurse for the Rahway school district and later as an executive secretary at Elsasser & Miller Architects in Union, N.J. She was involved with Literacy Volunteers and with volunteering at the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor, N.J. Ruth was a world traveler with her husband and later with her grandchildren to whom she instilled an awareness and compassion for different cultures. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Miller, in 2009 and her son, Paul, in 2003. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Warren Mosser) Fulton and Ellen (Peter) Herries, and her grandchildren, Allison, Emily, and Chris Herries.
