Sr. Claire M. Gagnon, CSC (Sr. Claire of the Cross), 89, of the Sisters of Holy Cross, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, NH died August 26, 2005 at her residence after a brief illness. Born in New Bedford, MA on May 26, 1916, she was the daughter of Luke and Catherine (Dumont) Gagnon. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1933 and made her final profession in 1941. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH. Sr. Gagnon was a parochial elementary school teacher in New Hampshire at Manchester, Nashua, Rochester and Suncook; in Springfield, MA and North Grosvenordale, CT. She retired to St. George Manor in Manchester in 1988. The family includes nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. with a prayer service at 7 pm. in St. George Manor, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 am. in the chapel at St. George Manor. Burial will follow in St. Augustin Cemetery, So. Beech St., Manchester, NH Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Cross Development Office, 377 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, NH 03109. Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, NH is assisting with arrangements.
