MURPHY, Cheryl Gail November 27, 1953 – Lafleche, SaskatchewanSeptember 23, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta Cheryl Murphy, beloved wife of Terry Murphy of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the age of 60 years. Cheryl and her husband Terry formed T.A. Murphy Petroleum in 1989 in Red Deer, Alberta. Cheryl was a partner in the business from 1989 until they sold the company in 2004. Cheryl enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, shopping and spending time with family and friends. Cheryl was a marvellous host, who made all feel welcome in her home. She simply loved having people around her, and meals were often the focal point of social gatherings. She enjoyed numerous trips, especially to warm locations soaking up the warmth of the tropical sun, sand and clear waters. She loved spending summers at the family cabin, hosting, laughing, visiting, and taking rides on the family boat (but not too fast). Cheryl started her volunteerism journey with the United Way in Red Deer as a Board Member, later becoming Campaign Chair, and finally sat on the National Board of Directors for United Way Canada. She touched the lives of many in her community through her time with this organization. Cheryl was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over thirty years. She joined the organization circa 1980 in Brandon, Manitoba and was active in Chapters in Kamloops, Red Deer and Calgary. She formed many of her deepest and lasting friendships through this wonderful organization. Cheryl was active with the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce. Cheryl's proudest achievement was being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and friend to all. Cheryl is survived by her husband Terry Murphy; son Ryan Murphy (Alex Murphy) of Calgary; grandson Heston Murphy, Calgary; her siblings Donna Nelson (Dewane), Gerry Monea (Chris), Boyd Monea (Roxie), Myles Monea (Rose), Edwina Segboer (Jeff), and Cliff Monea; and many other friends and family too numerous to mention. A special thank you to the dedicated professionals at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and Dr. Pyatt, Grassroots Naturopathic Clinic. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Way of Central Alberta in Cheryl's name. Donations can be directed to 4811 - 48 Street, Red Deer, AB or by calling (403) 343-3900. A Celebration of Cheryl's Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Cheryl Murphy, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
