Obituary of Catherine Brewer


Catherine Brewer of McDonough, N.Y.Catherine Brewer, 69, of McDonough, N.Y., went to be with the Lord, October 14, 2002 at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, N.Y. She was born in German, N.Y., on February 1, 1933. She was the loving wife of 35 years and best friend to Leslie Brewer, Sr., whom she married on June 16, 1967, and daughter of Lillian Root. Catherine was person of many flavors. She was a Sunday School Teacher, an active church member of German Baptist Church, Youth Group leader, 4-H leader, daycare provider, friend to many and mother and grandmother to many. She loved people, never turned anyone away, good or bad, and always saw the best in everyone. She was a caterer and cake decorator for weddings, baby showers, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries and many other occasions. She was a loving mother to many. She would go to any extent to guide, protect, help, love and cater to their needs in any way. Catherine worked for Smith Corona Corporation, Chenango County Office Building (cafeteria), Lewis Engineering, Simmons Rockwell (cafeteria), Bowman Lake Concession Stand and retired from NYS Correctional Facility, Camp Phasalia as head cook. Catherine is survived by her parents, Lillian and Neal Root, Smithville Flats, N.Y.; aunt, Bertha Deuel, Willett, N.Y.; sister, Jeanette and Jim Wark; brother, David and Joan McDonald; sisters-in-law, Ester Cardner, German, N.Y., Marion Arnold, Fla., Thelma and Gerald Temple, German, N.Y., Violet Maroney, German, N.Y., Elaine Warren, German, N.Y.; children, Robert and Jacqueline Wilcox, Norwich, N.Y., Donald and Cindy Wilcox, Hamilton, N.Y., Kathy and Jack Barnett, Binghamton, N.Y., Patricia and David Cummings, Harrells, N.C., Deborah and John Law, Charlotte, N.C., Leslie and Peggy Brewer, Jr., Georgetown, N.Y., Kathleen and Paul Stoker, Cincinnatus, N.Y., David and Linda Brewer, McDonough, N.Y., Roger and Starla Brewer, Lust, Wyo., Richard and Tammy Brewer, Carlisle, Pa., John and Debra Brewer, Dover, Pa., Deatta and Tom Uecker, Dover, Pa.; 38 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Catherine was predeceased by her father, Ardell McDonald; a special cousin, Joyce Wells; a great-grandchild, Dakota Bush; and a daughter, Sue Chapman. She will be dearly missed and loved forever by all. Calling hours will be held at German Baptist Church on October 18, 2002 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by services at 1 p.m. with pastor David Seaver. Burial will be at West View Cemetery, German, N.Y. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, any donations can be given to the German Baptist Church in Catherine's memory. Funeral arrangements are by the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, N.Y.
