BOCA RATON -- Daniel Weppner, a retired Florida Atlantic University professor who was a devout advocate of public schools and student volunteerism, died Saturday. He was 72.Mr. Weppner, an associate professor of education, taught at the university for more than 20 years until the mid 1990s. FAU President Frank Brogan was among his students. But even after a heart attack forced him from the classroom, Mr. Weppner stayed heavily involved in campus life right up until his death from diabetes-related illnesses.
