GRANTHAM, NH - Betty C. Smith, 79, of Grantham, NH, died on November 24 of lymphoma. Born in Tyringham, Massachusetts, on October 15, 1935, Betty was the daughter of Wilbur and Carrie (McCarthy) Clark. She grew up in the Berkshires and graduated from Lee High School and the Bishop Memorial School of Nursing. She also graduated from College of St. Joseph, and received an advanced nursing education at Northeastern University. Betty was the first school nurse at the Flood Brook Union School in Londonderry, Vermont, where she developed numerous programs to assist children and families. Also, Betty worked at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in the Pediatric and Adolescent department as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner until her retirement in 2000. Betty was an avid skier, gardener and cyclist; particularly enjoying European bicycle trips with her friends. She leaves three grown children Jeffrey L. Smith (and his friend Stephanie Kairies) of South Londonderry, VT, Kimberly S. Tenner (and her husband, Arthur) of Arlington, VT, and Scott F. Smith (and his wife Anabela) of Pelham, NY. She also leaves two grandsons Eric and Tayler, two brothers Francis Clark of S. Lee, MA, and Martin Clark of Monterey, MA; many nieces and nephews; and many special friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to The Upper Valley Haven at 713 Hartford Ave in White River Junction, VT, or Lake Sunapee VNA and Hospice at PO Box 2209, New London, NH. A memorial service will be held at North Universalist Chapel at 7 Church Street in Woodstock, Vermont, on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 1 p.m.
