->WATERVILLE -- Barbara Lorraine (Duhamel) Johnson, 83, left this world peacefully on Dec. 22, 2006, in Waterville, at the end of a long journey through Alzheimer's disease.She was born in Taunton, Mass., on April 23, 1923, the daughter of George and Barbara (Miles) Duhamel. She grew up with four brothers and two sisters in Brockton, Mass., and graduated from Brockton High School in 1941. At Brockton High School she met the love of her life, Roy A. Johnson, whom she married in 1945. While raising her two sons in Braintree, Mass., she worked part time, and was active in the Wollaston Lutheran Church and the Braintree Women's Club. She enjoyed bowling and spending summers with her family and friends at the family's camp on Frost Pond in Dublin, N.H. She was an accomplished seamstress.In 1980, Lorraine and Roy retired to their new home in Dublin N.H., where she lived until 1998. In Dublin she was active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and enjoyed gardening, feeding the wild birds, bowling with friends and traveling with her husband.In 1998, she moved to Waterville where she has lived at Park Residences, Evergreen and Mount Saint Joseph.She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Roy A. Johnson; one sister, Arlene Gunyan; two brothers, George Duhamel and Donald Duhamel; and her sister-in-law, Polly Johnson.Lorraine is survived by her two sons, Paul Johnson and his wife, Jean, of Oakland, and Alan Johnson and his wife, Joanne, of Niles, Mich.; four grandchildren, Ray, David, Jennifer and Kari Johnson; and five great-grandchildren, Krysta, Haley, Tyler, Darik and Kylee Johnson. She is also survived by two brothers, Edward Duhamel and his wife, Mildred, of Brockton, Mass., and Richard Duhamel and his wife, Edna, of Mashpee, Mass.; one sister, Elinor Cahalane of Plymouth, Mass.; one brother-in-law, Carroll Johnson and his wife, Jane, of Brewster, Mass.; two sisters-in-law, Carol Duhamel of Brockton and Norma Duhamel of Brockton; and many nieces and nephews.There will be no visiting hours. A committal service will be held in the spring at the Dublin, N.H., Community Cemetery.The family appreciates and sincerely thanks the staffs at both Evergreen and Mount Saint Joseph in Waterville for the loving and attentive care they gave to Lorraine at all times, and the patience and kindness they extended to her family.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Maine Alzheimer's Association, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101-2406, or by calling the association at (800) 660-2871.Arrangements are under the direction of the Gallant Funeral Home in Waterville.
