She was born in Norfolk, VA and was the only child of Georgia Lee Murphy Taylor and Julian Clinton Taylor. Raised in Lynchburg, VA, Barbara was well known in her late teens for her vocal musical talent via her radio show, BOBBIE TAYLOR SINGS, which was broadcast live several nights each week. She and Lewis especially enjoyed Ball Room style dancing (waltzing and tango being their favorite) with a Chester, VA group where they spent many evenings with friendly company. While living in Pennsylvania for several years, Barbara became deeply involved with the Bucks County Federation of Women's Club, serving as their President and Regional Secretary. When they had to move back to the South, they chose Greenville, SC where she again became involved in local volunteer work with Meals on Wheels and tutoring elementary children. She and Lewis enjoyed many years of advanced level Square Dancing and participated in select National Challenge conventions. She also enjoyed many trips regarding Lewis' hobbies and work by attending bi-annual Sojourner conventions, numerous technical symposiums and business functions and other trips to England, Egypt, and Jamaica as special treats. Her personal hobbies were varied from golf to duplicate bridge to exquisite embroidery and heirloom sewing.
