Arthur J. Carter, 87, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. Funeral services are private. Formerly of South Carolina, Westfield and Plainfield, N.J., Mr. Carter was a resident of South Plainfield for five years.. He was a former member of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, N.J. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for 30 years in Westfield. Mr. Carter received an honorable discharge from the US Army. He loved fishing. Predeceased by wife, Ruby Carter, Mr. Carter is survived by his sons, Arthur E. Carter, and William and Michael Edwards; daughters, Debra Carter, Barbara Edwards and Rita Batthe; brothers, Thomas and Charles Carter (Ethel); sisters, Mildred Morgan, Adeline Cary (Roland), Janet Taylor and Diann Gary; seven grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
