Obituary of Arthur Henderson


Arthur Richard Henderson, age 85, of 2609 E. North Ave., husband of Clara Smith Henderson, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Anderson Area Medical Center.Born in Simpsonville, S.C., on July 6, 1917, he was the son of the late Thomas Henry Henderson and the late Anna Mae Brashier Henderson. He was the retired owner/operator of Henderson Shoes. Mr. Henderson was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II where he earned three Bronze Service Stars, the American Defense Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church, a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He also served as superintendent of the Sunday School.Surviving are his wife, Clara Smith Henderson, of the home; two sons, Dicky Henderson and his wife, Cindy, of Iva, and Larry Henderson and his wife, Jan, of Anderson; one daughter, Brenda Cummings, of the home; two brothers, Broughton Henderson and his wife, Louise, of Simpsonville, and Jimmy Henderson and his wife, Sherry, of Williamston; one sister, Janie Henderson, of Mauldin; granddaughters, Sandi Caldwell and her husband, Trey, and Lauren Henderson, both of Anderson; grandsons, Matthew and Luke Henderson of Iva and Jonathon and Tyler Henderson of Anderson; one great-granddaughter, Kathryn Caldwell of Anderson, and a great-grandson, Daniel Caldwell of Anderson.Funeral services will be held in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 10, at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ken Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors by the Campbell Patriots.The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends today, June 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.The family will be at the residence.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Pope Drive Baptist Church, 2510 Pope Drive, Anderson, SC 29625.
