ObituaryARTHUR EDWARD UHLSPENCER - Arthur Edward Uhl, age 83, of Spencer, NY, passed away on December 6, 2007. Arthur was born December 1, 1923 in Queens, NY, the son of the late Arthur F. and Florence (Meyer) Uhl of Cortland, NY. He is survived by his wife, Laura (Doolittle) Chapman Uhl of Spencer, NY; a sister, Florence (Uhl) Durkee Telecsan of Little River, South Carolina. Predeceased by a sister, Marion (Uhl) Kaussner of Cortland, NY; and son, Arthur Uhl of Studio City, California. Survived by a son, Philip George Chapman; and a daughter, Beverly Ann (Chapman) Roman and husband, Kenneth Roman; foster child, Jason Chapman; several grandchildren of Waverly and Spencer, NY, two great-grandchildren from Waverly, NY, and several nieces and nephews from Cortland and Spencer, NY, South Carolina and Connecticut.He is a WWII Veteran, a Navy man, and fought in the Pacific. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a Charter Member of the Van Etten-Spencer VFW Post and member of the Candor American Legion. He was on the Ithaca Scuba Diving Recovery Team in the 1960's, a stock car driver in the 50's, worked at Morse Chain and later Emerson for 28 years, retiring August 29, 1986. He worked at the Empire State Speech & Hearing Clinic for several years in the 1980's. He was the President of the Spencer Ice Car Racing Association and also one of the leading drivers for points. He rode in game shows for Skyline Horse Show from Tioga Center, NY, Maddy Horse Club in Waverly, and the Club in Windham Center, PA, and rode in other shows in the local area. He owned many horses at the U Bar L Ranch on Fisher Settlement Road, where he sold potatoes, other vegetables and apples. Art was Fire Chief at Morse Chain and later became a fireman at the Spencer Fire Department.Calling hours will be Sunday, December 10th, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Allen-Manzer Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Spencer, NY, and funeral following at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow at Van Etten-Spencer VWF Post 8139, State Route 224 and Wyncoop Creek Road.
