She was 58."She touched a lot of people," said her husband, Robert Bouchard. "She was always a giving person, always wanted to be there for anybody in need."Mrs. Bouchard and her husband grew up in Brunswick and were friends long before they began dating after high school. Robert Bouchard saw a bright personality and an inner strength."She was my childhood sweetheart, she was always the one I knew I wanted to marry," he said. "There was something special about her."Not long after high school, Mrs. Bouchard lost both of her parents and assumed much of the responsibility for five younger siblings. At age 22 she was already the matriarch of a large family, her husband said. The couple did not have children of their own, but saw Mrs. Bouchard's siblings in that light, as the couple has treated their 15 nieces and nephews as grandchildren. Those bonds were trying at times, but ultimately brought the entire family closer. "They would always come to her for advice," her husband said. Mrs. Bouchard needed all of her strength to fight three bouts of breast cancer, her husband said. Not only did she fight back the cancer, he said, but she became a counselor for women going through the same challenges. And later, when Mrs. Bouchard was on kidney dialysis for more than four years, she filled the same role for those who sought her out. Dozens of people in the midcoast were affected by her kindness and openness, her husband said. "She would lay it out for them and say 'I'm not going to sugarcoat it,' " he said.Mrs. Bouchard called the donation of a kidney in 1990 her "Angel of Life." The couple created an angel garden in front of their home on Hickory Drive, and people who knew them added many angels to their collection. "Anytime we sent out cards and letters, we signed Bob and Anne and the Angel of Life," her husband said. The Bouchards did not know how much life to expect after the kidney transplant. Robert Bouchard said it has been seven wonderful years. The illness that claimed Mrs. Bouchard's life turned out to be a return of cancer, this time to her bones. They just discovered that about a month ago, her husband said. Her death has come as a shock to those who were close to the family, and many will pay their respects at services this week."Her faith was strong throughout," her husband said. "Anybody who was with her through her many struggles knows this."
