FITCHBURG -- Andre Croteau, 88, of 272 St. Joseph Ave., died Monday, May 22, in The Highlands, after an illness. He was born on May 2, 1918, in Fitchburg, the son of the late Joseph and Melina Croteau. Mr. Croteau served in the U.S. Navy on several vessels during World War II, from Jan. 6, 1941 until his honorable discharge on Sept. 13, 1945. He was an electrician and worked for several local electrical companies and Seabrook Power Plant. He completed the electrical work for St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School in 1963, when the new addition was added. Mr. Croteau was a member of Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church and helped with their electrical needs in addition to their Annual Garlic Festival. A hard worker and a handy man, he enjoyed working around his house, which he built, and his garden. He enjoyed traveling, especially when he and his wife, Alice, would drive across the country. Mr. Croteau leaves his many loving nieces and nephews, including his caregiver, Donna Benoit and her husband, Daniel, of Leominster. His wife of 57 years, Alice E. (Gagnon) Croteau, died Sept. 17, 2005. He was also predeceased by two brothers and two sisters CROTEAU -- On May 22, Andre Croteau, 88, of Fitchburg. The funeral, with military honors, will be held Friday, May 26, from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church, 118 Theresa St., Fitchburg. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the funeral Friday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for Masses in his name at Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church, 118 Theresa St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
