Alton Franklin Smith, 59, of 57 Lakefront Circle, died March 4, 2004, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.A native of Greenville County, he was a son of the late Ed and Katie Robertson Smith, was of the Baptist faith, and was an employee of the City of Greer, Public Works Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.Surviving are three brothers, Leonard E. Smith, of North Charleston, Clarence Smith, of Taylors, and Devoe Smith, of Lyman; three sisters, Velta S. Morgan, of Greenville, Tweedie Perry, of Lexington, and Margaret Gilbert, of Augusta, Ga.; and several cousins.He was predeceased by eight brothers, William C. Smith, Robert O. Smith, James C. Smith, David L. Smith, Elbert C. Smith, Henry E. Smith, John O. Smith and Eddie Wilson Smith; and two sisters, Daisy Lee Glasser and Imogene Pace.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wood Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. J.C. Duncan. Burial will be at Mt. View Cemetery.The families are at their respective homes.Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Wood Mortuary.
