Allen "Homer" Davis 1923 - 2008 Former Hopewell resident Homer Davis, 84, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at his Forksville, Pa. home. Homer was born on April 11, 1923 to the late Eugene and Emma LeGro Davis. He attended rural school, and lived in the Hopewell and Clifton Springs area for many years. He had worked for various farms, including the Clifton Springs Sanitarium Farm, and had been employed by Garlock Manufacturing in Palmyra. After moving to Pennsylvania he had been employed by Pullman Power Products. He was a member of the Hillsgrove Pennsylvania United Methodist Church. Homer was a well known musician in upstate New York. He played for round and square dances and at local venues for many years, playing everything from "The Beer Barrel Polka" to Jimmy Rogers' "Blue Yodel #1". He and his sister, Emily, were often featured on the former Foster Brooks radio show, airing in the 1940s and 1950s. He continued his music after moving to Florida and to Pennsylvania where he played for many clubs and organizations. He is survived by two sons, Stephen (Joyce) Davis of Linden, Pa. and Edward D. of Hemet, Calif.; his companion, Pearl Thomas of Forksville, Pa.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Merton of Palmyra, and Emily Goodman of Clifton Springs; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olga Davis; his brothers Paul, Lynn and Jay Davis, and his sister Alta White. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, at noon at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home in Dushore, Pa. with burial in the Hillsgrove Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Canandaigua at a time to be announced.
