Alice-Dorothy Jackson, born in 1915, spouse of Bill Jackson, died on January 5, 2015 at 63 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
JACKSON, Alice Dorothy (nee Allison) January 21, 1915 - January 5, 2015 Born in the family home in Royal Oak and weighing just under 2 Ibs, she was put on the oven door in a shoe box as an incubator. Her life-long friend, Edna would often recount her concern, at the time, that someone might shut the oven door! That was how this strong, stubborn, hard working woman began her life. Mom spent her first 63 years in Royal Oak. From working on the family farm, at the Sooke Harbour House and as Janitor for 20 years at Royal Oak School. She was also a caregiver for friends and family and a caretaker at Royal Oak cemetery. Mom was always working. Even after "retiring" she lived and worked for ten years at her daughter's blueberry farm. She then moved on to Calgary where she became the unofficial neighbourhood watch. Langford was her next stop where she shared all the escapades of her youth with her grandchildren, made them homemade macaroni and cheese and spent lots of time at the local lakes. She could often be found reading a book in the sun or at the Strawberry Vale bingo on a Wednesday night with many of the friends she had had for decades. Mom loved the beach and she gave the seven of us the best summers camping and picnicking all over the coast of Vancouver Island. Predeceased by her husband, Bill of 45 years (1977); her daughter, Carole (1991) and son, Douglas (2010). Survived by daughters, Alma, Bernice, Doreen, Elaine and Faye; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mom's last years were spent at Mount St. Mary Hospital where she made lots of close relationships with her caregivers with a special mention to Lyn and Dave who gave her so many laughs and made her so comfortable in her last years. Thank you Mom, for always being there for us. You will never be far from our thoughts, especially when the violets, snowdrops and lady's slippers bloom. Mom requested no service and we are respecting her wishes.
