World War II veteran, New Jersey Civil War preservationist, and longtime Civil War re-enactor John J. "Jack" Fitzpatrick passed away on Jan. 31, 2014, at age 91. Jack was born and raised in Orange, N.J. In the late 1970s, Jack joined Company E, 15th New Jersey Volunteers, and became a familiar figure at Civil War reenactments for over 30 years. Involved in historic preservation, in 1998 he was a founding member and later president of the New Jersey Civil War Heritage Association. Jack Fitzpatrick's cremated remains will be interred at Arlington Cemetery, Kearny, N.J., on April 23 at 11 a.m. On Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. there will be a Memorial Mass and celebration of Jack's life at Queen of Peace Church, Ridge Road, North Arlington, N.J. Jack is survived by family and the love of his life for over 50 years, Hazel Gallo. In lieu of flowers, donations to njcivilwar150.org are welcome.
