Wilma Kathryn Miller, 92, Buffalo, Mo., passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008, in Colonial Springs Healthcare, where she had been a resident for the past seven years. She was born February 8, 1916, to Bert and Esther Flanagan, and was the eldest of five children. She loved and cared for her siblings as her own. We praise God for this love and nurturing that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. The real impact of her loving and giving heart can only be measured by the unknown number of people she helped, quietly, without fanfare, because she was grateful for the blessings she had been given. Wilma graduated from Buffalo High School in 1935, attended Southwest Baptist College, and taught school for three years, before marrying Dwight "Johnny" Miller on December 24, 1937. Together, they built a large dairy farm in Long Lane, Mo. Wilma was well known in the community for the fabulous dinners she served threshing crews and farm workers. Her vegetable garden and flowers were a sight to behold. One of her favorite things was to host and feed the foreign exchange students at SBU during the holidays. She was a longtime active member of Pisgah Baptist Church of Long Lane, before transferring her membership to the First Baptist Church of Buffalo. Everyone enjoyed her basket dinners and desserts, which she so joyously prepared, especially her scalloped potatoes, cherry pies, angel food cakes and her famous sugar cookies. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wayne Flanagan; and two children, Mary Lou (in infancy) and Larry Lee Miller in 1967. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Dwight "Johnny" Miller of Buffalo, Mo.; daughter Linda and husband, Jim Brown of Buffalo; daughter-in-law Beth Marsh and husband, Bill of Rogersville; six grandchildren, Myndi Downs and husband, Danny, Larry Martin Miller and wife, Patty, Carrie Hulsey and husband, Kent, Christie Anderson and husband, Andy, Debbie Williams and husband, Marty and Grant Marsh; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Weldon and Kenneth Flanagan; and one sister, Wanza Ellis. A memorial service of worship and celebration will be held in Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home, 303 North Maple, Buffalo, on Tuesday, June 10, at 1 p.m. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be given to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1106 West Main, Buffalo, MO 65622 or left at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the precious nurses and caregivers at Colonial Springs Healthcare for their wonderful love and care that they so freely gave to our Mammy Wilma. Named Mammy by her first-born grandchild Myndi, at age 1, has stuck for 46 years. If there is a baby crying in heaven, we know Mammy will cuddle it and rock it to sleep. We will remember Mammy for her sweet, strong spirit and the honorable way she led her life.
