Bro. Willie Johnson - Savannah -Bro. Willie Johnson 80, Savannah died Friday, July 28, 2006 at Candler/St. Joseph's Hospital in the tender and loving embrace of his wife, his family and his church family, succumbing to an extended and debilitating illness. The Savannah native was a devout and faithful member of the Liberty City Church of Christ being on of its oldest members. He was indeed a martinet as is characterized by his exemplary and untiring leadership to the congregation in numerous capacities in which he served. He will well be remembered for his ascetic lifestyle and his unpretentious demeanor. Bro. Johnson was employed for a number of years as a truck driver for the former Benton Bro's Trucking Company and aster Roadway Express Trucking Company, retiring in August of 1989 after forty-five years of service., He was a long time resident of the East Savannah Community and an active member its community organization. He is preceded in death by his son, Larry Johnson and brother, John Henry Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Gantt Johnson, Savannah, GA; daughters, Delores (Eugene) Powell, Savannah, GA, Tonia (Kirk) Kerr, Jacksonville, FL; sons, Robert Johnson, Savannah, GA, Kevin (Kathy) Johnson, Texas; one sister, Marie (Jeff) Jeffies, New York; brother-in-law, Harold (Carolyn) Gantt; sisters-in-law, Gladys Johnson, California, Sarah Mathis, Roberta Edwards; stepmother, Grace Johnson, Rincon; stepdaughter, Hazel Brown; stepson, Lawrence Garvin; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a host of other relatives. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Liberty City Church of Christ, 1709 Staley, Avenue. Instate: 9:00 a.m., Saturday until the hour of funeral. Burial: East Savannah Cemetery.
