Willie Gertrude "Billi"Turner Collins - SAVANNAH- Willie Gertrude Turner Collins, 81, was received in the presence of the Lord, Saturday, June 23, 2007. Billi was born in Rocky Ford, Georgia to Willie Thomas Hart and Gertrude Mixon Hart on November 14, 1925. She graduated from Portal High School and the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing of Savannah. She was a nurse and an anesthesiologist in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war she was a homemaker until she returned to school to become a Dental Hygienist. She enjoyed many honors and accolades from the Georgia Dental Society, and served on the State Board of Examiners for Dental Hygienist. The last thirty years of her career she worked with Dr. Louis L. Castillian of Savannah, GA. She also did private duty nursing and was a Certified Ceramics Instructor. A Charter member of the Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church she served in many functions of the Presbyterian Women, and helped the International Seaman's House. She longed supported the work and the mission of the Carmelite Monestary. She was a former Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter of Statesboro, GA. She is survived by her husband, Howard "Bob" Collins, of Savannah, sons, Milton "Scrap" Turner and his wife Judith, of Mooresville, N.C., and Rev. David Wayne Turner and his wife Karen, of Barnwell, S.C. Four grandsons, Milton Wilmer Turner, III and his wife Ronda, of Mooresville, N.C., Duane Scott Turner and his wife Julie, of Mooresville, N.C., Daniel John Turner and his wife Kattie, of Mooresville, N.C., Brett Lanier Turner and his wife Rev. Marianne of Richmond, VA, three granddaughters, Shelley Renee Turner, of Greenville, S.C., Stacey Lynn James and her husband Boyd Jesse James, of Mooresville, N.C., Amanda Leigh Underwood and her husband David Ryan Underwood, of Mauldin, S.C., and her brother, Braxton Sills, of Richmond Hill, GA. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, Milton David Jon Turner, Christopher Nicholas Turner, Emily Rae Turner, Morgan Nicole Turner, Reagan Alice Turner, Savannah Elisabeth James, Victoria Sloan Turner, Jessie Lynne James, and Jackson Scotty Turner, all of Mooresville, N.C., Jon Curtis Forbes and William David Turner, of Richmond, VA., and special and loving cousins and friends. Visitation will be Monday, June 25, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are invited to a reception after the service at the Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church.
