StrangeGreenvilleBill was a born salesman who delivered newspapers in a Clinton mill village when he was seven years old, and used his first paycheck to take his family out for ice cream. Later he moved to Bates burg and attended Batesburg-Leesville High School. There he played baseball, football, and basketball, acted in school plays, and sang in the chorus and the Boys' Quartet. He was a boy soprano whose voice matured to a magnificent baritone under the guidance of Martha Watson. He attended the University of South Carolina, sang in the chorus, and attended all of the football games, becoming a lifelong Gamecocks fan. Throughout Bill's life he sang in church choirs, community choruses, and musical plays. In Greenville he sang in the Greenville Tech Singers and the Greenville Chorale. He was a consummate salesman, an award-winning photographer, an excellent bridge player, a dedicated golfer, and a major fan of watching and riding in hot air balloons. Bill was a devoted family man who was proud of his children and told them they could become anything they wanted to be. He was good to his mother and his mother-in-law. He took his mother to Hawaii and took them both on trips throughout the Southeast. He loved his work, spending most of his career in industrial sales, eventually traveling throughout the Southeast as a manager and trainer. He helped his wife with her recruiting business, and had a small photography studio. His final job was part-time salesman for the Greenville News.He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne of 58 years; two children, Sharon Strange Stepler, and husband William, and Michael Strange; three brothers, James C. Strange, and wife, Joyce, Lindy Joe Strange, and wife, Tena, Ronald Terry Strange, and wife, Betty; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and ten nieces and nephews.The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, with a reception to follow.Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.thomasmcafee.com.
