Obituary of William-Paul Smith


REFORM William Paul Smith, age 73, of Reform, died July 21, 2013, at Pickens County Medical Center. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brannon Pinion officiating. Burial will follow in Mineral Springs Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.He was preceded in death by his parents.Survivors include his wife, Martha Jean Keasler Smith; daughter, Tammy Booth (Jeff); son, Rodney Smith (Jenny); sisters, Jane Banks (Gary) and Cherry Truelove (Mike); brother, Jack Smith (Becky); grandchildren, Tyler Booth (Tina), Hunter Booth, Katie Beth Smith, Gracie Jackson, Collin Smith, Anna Grace Jackson, and Gunner Eli Smith; and a number of nieces and nephews.Mr. Smith was born July 30, 1939 in Pickens County, Alabama, to the late William George Smith and Lucy Kate Cook Smith. He was a member of Reform First Baptist Church, retired owner of Smith Grocery, a farmer, a former agent for Farm Bureau and served with the Army National Guard for seven years. Paul was a 1959 graduate of Pickens County High School where as of today; the school has only had three State Championship football teams. Paul was a member of the 1958 Football State Championship team which was the second State Championship for the school. He was very proud to have been a member of the founding families of Pickens Academy in 1969-1970.Pallbearers will be Tyler Booth, Hunter Booth, Collin Smith, Gunner Smith, Billy Strickland, Arthur Richardson, Brian Lewis, Tim Gates, Ronnie Smith, and Mike Brown.Honorary pallbearers are the coffee crew from Jack's, the Saw Shop gang, Dr. William Hill, Dr, Lee Richardson, Dr. James Parker, Pat Smith, Billy Ray Pate, John Paul Richardson, the Pickens Academy family, Coach Lynn Wright, and Coach Lane Wright.
