<!-- FH = Cox Funeral Home -->William Parker Shirley, husband of 62yrs to Ruby Reeves Shirley of 102 Guthrie Ave. died Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Hospice of the Upstate.Born in Belton, he was the son of the late William Fred and Minnie Segars Shirley. He was a US Air Force veteran. For 28 years Parker owned and operated Shirley's Super Market in Belton. He was a faithful member of Belton First Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He was a founding member of Eastview Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and chairman of the Building Committee. He was also a licensed contractor, Mason, member of American Legion and South Carolina Food Retailer Grocery Man of the Year.Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are: daughters, Patricia Strickland and husband Mike of Abbeville, Jan Nicholson and husband Buddy of Anderson; grandchildren; Michelle Lee and husband Mark, Chuck Strickland and wife Teresa, John Beeks and wife Krystal, Chris Strickland and wife Allison, Amanda L. Dawson, Stacy Nicholson and wife Danielle, J.C. Nicholson, III and wife Courtney, Lara Landers; great grandchildren, Mason Lee, Avery Strickland, Eli Strickland, Parker Beeks, Cooper Strickland, Mills Lee, Sydney Strickland, Katie Beeks and Camden Strickland; nine great grandchildren; brother, Jim Shirley of Myrtle Beach, SC and his wife Sylvia; sister in law, Jane Ledbetter Shirley of Williamsburg, VA.He was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Frank Shirley.Service will be conducted 4pm Sunday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Lynch and Dr. Booker Bagby officiating. Burial will be at Dolly Cooper VA Cemetery at 11am Monday.The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday from 2pm until 3:45pm at First Baptist Church Family Life Center.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate @ 1835 Rogers Rd. Anderson, SC 29621, Gideon International @ PO Box 140800 Nashville, TN 37214 or First Baptist Church @ PO Box 366 Belton, SC 29627.The family will be at the residence, 102 Guthrie Ave. Belton.Cox Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
