Langston, William COHOES William D. Langston, 93, of Skyview Dr. in Cohoes, died on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center embraced by his loving family. Born in Timmonsville, S.C., he was the son of the late Claude S. and Georgia Carter Langston and beloved husband of Jean DeThomas Langston of Cohoes. Bill attended Sardis High School in Timmonsville and also Troy High School. He was a proud United States World War II Pearl Harbor Survivor Navy Veteran. Bill participated in the Doolittle Raid also known as the Tokyo Raid. He served aboard the USS West Virginia, which sank in Pearl Harbor and was raised July 1942 and was refitted and engaged in the Philippine War, he also served aboard the USS Ellet. He was decorated in honor and the recipient of the American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, (Two Star), World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Medal (One Star). He was employed as a plumbing and heating superintendant with Trojan Hardware for 35 years and retired in 1982. Bill enjoyed fishing, but his true enjoyment came from the abundant love of family. His family was the center of his life. Bill was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Organization and a former member of the Elks. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, William G. (Kathleen) Langston of Penfield, Stephen G. Langston of Latham and Susan M. (Gail Wallinga) of Minneapolis, Minn.; adored grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Stephanie and Billy Langston; siblings, Reuel K. Langston of Latham, Nellie Mae Kirby of Timmonsville, S.C., Opal Fay Sheppard of Wilmington, N.C., Wayland Georgia (Shorty) Parnell of Bishopville, S.C. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Theo, Carter and Christy Langston and Mary Elam DeFee. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ltd, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes, Friday, January 16 at 12:30 p.m. with Reverend Peter Tkocz officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Gerald B.H. Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Calling hours are Friday from 11:30-12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
