William J. Moriarty lifelong resident of Lowell; 82 -- LOWELL William J. Moriarty, 82, a member of a well known Greater Lowell family and a lifelong resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston on July 8th surrounded by his family. -- Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, March 29, 1931, the son of the late Thomas and the late Katherine (Keohane) Moriarty, he attended St. Patrick Grammar School and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1949. He then went on to attend Lowell Technological Institute. A veteran of the Korean War, Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. -- Prior to his retirement, Bill worked at John Hancock in Boston for over thirty years. He was a past Chairman of the United Way Fund at the Hancock. -- He had been a member for over fifty years at Mount Pleasant Golf Course where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with his children, grandchildren and forged lifelong friendships. Bill was very involved in a number of local organizations. A member of the Board of Directors at the Lowell House, he was also a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al Anon. In addition, Bill was a Corporator of Lowell General Hospital, where he took an active role in fundraising for the Lowell General Cancer Care Teamwalk for many years. -- Bill was married to the late Muriel (Copley) who passed away in 1979. He was the proud father of Jim Moriarty and his wife Mary (Keefe) of Chelmsford, John Moriarty and his wife Anne (Tremblay) of Tygsborough, Janet Moriarty and her wife Margie Morong of Denver, CO, Bob Moriarty and his husband Jeffrey Kwong of New York City, Brian Moriarty and his wife Karen (Britton) of Lowell, Dennis Moriarty, and Ellen Moriarty both of Lowell. He was also predeceased by two sons, Thomas and Patrick. He was the brother of the late Kay Cremin. Bill took great pride in his nine wonderful grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. MORIARTY -- Friends are invited to attend a "Celebration of Life" gathering at Mount Pleasant Golf Club, 141 Staples St. in Lowell on Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M. A Family Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. that night at the Club to which everyone is invited. Kindly omit flowers.
