"PaPa" - William Hollis Jordan joined our Heavenly Father surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 26, 2011.He was born Nov. 4, 1913, in Roberta, Ga. He and his wife, Johnnie, moved to Crestview, Fla., in 1942. Here he made many friends who became extended family members. He worked as a civil servant for over 30 years at Eglin Air Force Base. His first role was as an aircraft mechanic for over 30 years. In this capacity he was honored to have been a part of the team who modified the aircraft used by the Doolittle Raiders. Most knew him in his role as a refrigeration technician and mentor at the Climatic Hanger on Eglin main base. He completed his civil service career at Duke Field. Papa publicly professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at the age of 90.He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crestview. He was a lifelong member of the Crestview Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 203, member of the Fort Walton Beach Masonic Lodge, York Rite Bodies, and a Shriner at the Hadji Temple in Pensacola, Fla. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved to tell stories of those times. He was one of the longest standing fans of the Crestview High School Bulldogs and was seen every year game after game on the 50-yard line, sitting under the press box cheering the dawgs on!Papa was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Johnnie Drawdy Jordan; and his parents, Samuel Jones and Olive Ruth Hollis Jordan. He is survived by five children, Betty (Roy) Wood, Larry (Betty) Jordan, Sam (Allison) Jordan, Debra (Ben) Tyler and Wilma (Mark) Salisbury. His loving niece, Patsy (Farrell) Nathey, also survives him. Grandchildren include Chuck (Ellen) Wood, Greg (Dawn) Wood, Angela (Jerry) Barry, Laura (David) Chamberlain, Nyles (Carol) Jordan, Darren Jernigan, Chad Broxson, Jonni Nash, Shannon Settles, Sharee (Jonas) Forrester, Micah (Joshua) Haddock, and Merrick Salisbury. Papa is also survived by several great-grandchildren, Tyler, Courtney and Connor Wood, Senea and Katharine Wood, Casey Davis, Mallory and Hannah Needleman, Rachel (Brian) Jernigan, Molly and Jordan Chamberlain, Katie Ekes and Jordan Forrester.Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 29, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Crestview. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. following visitation. Burial will follow in Live Oak Park Cemetery.The family extends their deepest gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their sharing of special care and compassion.Floral tributes will be gratefully accepted, or for those who so desire, the family suggests donations to the building fund of the First Baptist Church of Crestview.Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
