William Harry Sparks January 06, 1918 - July 20, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) SPARKS, William Harry - 86, North Preston, died July 20, 2004, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in North Preston, he was a son of the late John and Blanche (Downey) Sparks. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces (Army) for six years during the Second World War. He was a member of Saint Thomas United Baptist Church. He served as secretary for the Board of Trustees for New Road School and treasurer for North Preston Senior Citizens Clubs. He worked with Graham Geddes as a carpenter for a number of years and with Eric Whebby as a labourer until his retirement. Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Edith (Cain) Sparks; son, Ronald (Sherry), Halifax; daughter, Lavonne, North Preston; sisters, Mary Sparks, Lake Loon; Helen (Spencer) Sparks, Lake Loon; Laura (Lesley) Cain, North Preston; brother, James Sparks, Toronto; brother-in-law, James Colley, East Preston; sisters-in-law, Florence Sparks, Lake Loon; Helen Sparks, Toronto; Godchildren, Norma Downey, Viola Cain, Yvonne Cain, and Melvin Riley; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Lionel; foster sons, Morton Grant and Derrick Downey; daughter, Argarine; sisters, Edna Colley, Katheline Riley, and Bridgette Kane; brothers, John, Frederick, Joseph, Stanley, and Donald. Visitation will be held from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, in Saint Thomas Baptist Church, North Preston, Rev. Wallace Smith officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
