Bill passed away at Kiwanis Care Centre North Vancouver with loving family at his side. Bill was predeceased by his daughter Jacquie (August/82) and son Cameron (March/85) He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara, devoted son Ron and daughter in-law Liz. Born and raised in Vancouver with time spent in Port Alberni Bill began work as an apprentice shipwright working on wooden vessels in shipyards in Coal Harbour in 1950. Later he worked for North Western Dredging in North Vancouver and Northern Construction (where he saved the life of a drowning co-worker in 1968 and was recognized with the first WCB Bravery Award) culminating in significant successes supervising marine construction in the Canadian Arctic's offshore oil exploration.Bill later worked at Vancouver Shipyards as Vice President then moved on to Centennial Dredge as V.P. and played a role in the merger with Fraser River Pile & Dredge where he stayed on as V.P. In 1988 Bill partnered in the founding of Mainroad Contracting holding the position of V.P. where he remained until semi retiring in 1995. Bill was principled, determined and respected both in business and in the community where he volunteered as a Big Brother in the 1960's and was Big Brother of the year in 1968. He also participated in various clubs involved with fund raising up until recently. In retirement Bill and Barb travelled extensively, continued to play golf until his knees gave out and played many hands of bridge with friends.Your strength of character, determination against the odds, generous nature and limitless love for your family will be amongst our most cherished memories. We were so blessed to have known you Bill and we will miss you terribly.Special thanks to all the staff at Kiwanis that cared for Bill and a heartfelt thank you to his caregiver Teresa who lovingly cared for Bill over the past 2 years. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the Alzheimers Society of BC. A service will be held at a future date.
