LYONS William H. Lyons, Jr. passed away on June 14, 2012. A native of Jacksonville, he was born on September 11, 1921. He was the son of the late William H. Lyons, Sr. and Blanche (Herring) Lyons. Buster graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1939. He went on to receive his bachelor s degree in Engineering from Auburn University, where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. A diehard Tigers football fan (War Eagle!), Mr. Lyons eagerly awaited football season each fall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ella, whom he met during college. Buster spent his entire career employed by Southern Bell and retired as Division Manager of Engineering. In retirement, he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mr. Lyons was a faithful Christian and a devoted member of Swaim Memorial United Methodist Church where he and Mary Ella regularly attended the Golden Key Sunday School class in addition to regular services. Buster and Mary Ella enjoyed vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina each year. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Dad was always there for us. We will greatly miss the guidance and love he gave us. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Jansen (Jeff), Elizabeth Lyons and Rebecca Moseley (John), four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 18 from 5 7pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL. A funeral service will be Tuesday, June 19 at 11am at Swaim Memorial United Methodist Church, 1620 Naldo Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32207. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. Memorials may be directed to Swaim Memorial United Methodist Church.
