William-Freddie Lee, born in 1936, son of Fred and Odis-Shirley, father of Christy Lee, died on September 25, 2004 at 68 years old.
Lavonia - Mr. William Freddie Lee, age 68, of Bowman Street, Lavonia, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Stephens County Hospital in Toccoa following a year-long battle with colon cancer.A native Lavonian, Mr. Lee was born January 13, 1936 to the late Fred E. and Odis Shirley Lee.Mr. Lee was manager of Stewart's Downtown Drugs in Toccoa for some 14 years. He was employed by The Lavonia Times and The Franklin County Citizen for 42 years.He was a 58 year member of First Baptist Church of Lavonia and a member of the Bob Gillespie Sunday School Class.He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War.Mr. Lee was a Master Mason, Lavonia Lodge #241, Free and Accepted Masons, (F&A.M.), was a Royal Arch Mason, Fred E. Lee Chapter #86, Royal and Select Masons (R&S.M.) and the Franklin Council #50, Royal and Select Masons (R&S.M.).He was a member and former captain of the Lavonia Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years, was a member and past president of the Lavonia Lions Club, was a member of the Resource Conservation Development Council, a member of the American Legion, Post #92, Lavonia; was a member and former board member of the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce, was a former member of the Lavonia Jaycees, and was a former member of the Downtown Development Authority.Mr. Lee served 12 years on the Lavonia City Council and was instrumental in promoting the writing of the history of Lavonia's downtown buildings.Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ernestine Stewart Lee, of the home; daughter, Christy Lee Bivins and her husband Chris, of Toccoa; two sisters, Margaret Lee Ayers and Jean Lee both of Lavonia; grandson, Dustin Bivins; four nieces, two great-nephews, and many cousins.Services for Mr. Lee will be Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Lavonia with Dr. Larry Finger and Rev. Richard Bielski officiating.Musical selections will be rendered by Lydia Etheridge, Robyn Eavenson and Melanie Burton-Brown.Interment will follow in the Burgess (Lavonia City) Cemetery with Revs. Ron Hinson and Chris Chitwood ministering rites of commital. Military rites will also be observed.The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 on Tuesday to lie in state until the funeral hour.The following gentlemen are requested to serve as pallbearers and should assemble at the funeral home by 2:45 on Tuesday: Chris Bivins, Donald Canady, Thomas Cole, Billy Dilworth, Gary Fesperman, Ralph Owens, Frank Stewart, Ron Walters, Mike Smith and Randy Shirley.The Bob Gillespie Sunday School Class and the Lavonia Lions Club will serve as honorary escort.The body is at Hamby Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Monday, September 27, 2004 from 4-5:30 and 7-9 p.m.At times other than the calling hours at the funeral home, the family is at the home at 361 Bowman Street.Hamby Funeral Home, 355 Bear Creek Road, Lavonia, is serving the Lee family during this time.Please sign our Obituary Guest Book at www.onlineathens.com.Athens Banner-Herald, Monday, Sept. 27, 2004
