William Edward Stewart, 80, of Hinesville passed away April 19, with Dewayne, his loving wife of 57 years by his side. He was born March 11, 1929 in Sprott, Ala., where he lived until joining the Army in July of 1947. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Benjamin J. Stewart and Gladys Madison Stewart. He came to Hinesville in 1961 with the Army, making his home here after tours to Germany and Korea. He retired from the Army after 25 years of service and 17 years with civil service. Traveling in his camper was his passion, but he loved fishing and shrimping. Surviving are daughter, Cynthia Stewart of Winston Salem, N.C.; son, Benjamin (Tammy) Stewart of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Frances Stewart Hamm of Sprott; and four granddaughters, Sarah, Katherine, Margaret Nall and Savannah Stewart all of North Carolina. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington with the Rev. Bill Barnett officiating. Full military honors will be rendered after the service. Burial will be private at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville. Pallbearers will be provided by the United States Army. Remembrances have been suggested to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 Thomas L.
