CARTER William Carl Carter, 79, of Atlantic Beach, passed away peacefully at the McGraw Hospice Center at Mayo Clinic, Tuesday, September 23, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Born June 13, 1929 in Douglas Georgia, Carl was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a strong faith in his Lord Jesus Christ and for many years was a member of Oak Harbor Baptist Church which he served as a founding member. He worked for many years as an Accountant and in his latter retired years he had a landscape business and enjoyed playing the guitar. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Martha Carter; son, Bruce Carter (Sheryl), Atlantic Beach; son, David Carter (Lillian), Atlanta; daughter, Beverly Holland (Jerry), Jacksonville; daughter, Kim McCarthy (John), Jacksonville. He leaves behind his loving grandchildren, April Nicole Carter, Allison Carter (Petr Kubic), James David Carter, Brian Ashley Holland (Kylie), Laurie Lynn Carter, Elizabeth Ann McCarthy and Lauren Ann McCarthy. He also leaves behind a devoted brother, Max Carter (Jeanie); sisters, Oleta Walker (Edison) and Geraldine Kirkland, all of Douglas, Georgia. A homegoing celebration service will be held Friday, September 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Harbor Baptist Church, Mayport, Florida. Pastors Randy Crews of Oak Harbor Baptist Church along with Tom Bary of Neptune Baptist Church will officiate. Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
