KINDERHOOK William Bedell Morrison of Kinderhook, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Albany Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Morrison born February 1, 1923 in Baldwin, N.Y., is the son of the late William Bryant and Lettie (Baldwin) Morrison. Bill graduated from Baldwin High School and attended Syracuse University before enlisting in the Army Air Corps Cadet program in 1942. He was commissioned as a 1st lieutenant in 1943 and saw active service as a bombardier on B17s, completing 31 missions over Europe. Among other commendations, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross with an oak leaf cluster. Mr. Morrison joined the H.O. Penn Machinery Co. (a division of Caterpillar) in 1945 and attended the American Management seminars regularly from 1965 until 1973. In 1973, he moved to Albany, N.Y. as a part owner of Southworth Machinery Co. and continued until his retirement in 1985. He remained on the board of directors until 1992. In 1989, he joined the board of directors of the National Development and Research Institute Inc. (a not for profit research group working on narcotics and aids research in New York City) of which he served on the executive and finance committees. Mr. Morrison also served on the board of directors of the Kinderhook Union National Bank, served on the vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kinderhook and on the board of the Kinderhook Memorial Library. He was a nearly 60 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons, former member of the New York Yacht Club, the Fort Orange Club in Albany and the St. Andrew's Society of Albany. Mr. Morrison is survived by his wife of 63 years to Marion (Dippel) Morrison of Kinderhook; two children, Susan Morrison Fahey and her husband Colby of Ticonderoga, N.Y. and William H. Morrison and his wife Susan of Freeport, Maine; four grandchildren, Katy Morrison Carr, Sara Morrison Doran, Meredith Morrison and William C. Fahey; four great-grandchildren Jillian Carr, Olivia Doran, Andrew Fahey and Nathaniel Fahey. Mr. Morrison will be remembered as a devoted and protective husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family and was happiest when spending time working around his home doing family carpentry projects, or teaching his grandsons to flyfish. He loved nature and being outdoors on the water or in the woods. A service of remembrance will be held Monday, July 3, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kinderhook. Interment will follow in the Kinderhook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the Kinderhook Memorial Library.
