Obituary of William-B. Lovell


William B. Civil Engineer Age 79, Wednesday, January 22, 2003 of Elmira and Hector, N.Y. He was born in Elmira the son of Harry C. and Gertrude B. Lovell. A graduate of Whitney Point High School and Cornell School of Engineering class of 1948. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. He was first employed by the Arundel Corp and was instrumental in the development of the Mount Morris Dam in N.Y. and the Liberty Dam in MD. Locally, his employment experience included Dresser Rand, Fudge & Underhill Architects, Director of Buildings and Grounds for the Elmira School District and The Sear-Brown Group. He was a member of the Elmira Kiwanis Club, North Presbyterian Church, and was an active volunteer at the Clemens Center. He was active in camping organizations and enjoyed his summer home on Seneca Lake. He was an avid boater. He was predeceased by his eldest son, David W. Lovell, October 1, 2001. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Florence Lovell; children and their spouses Marc B. (Kathy) Lovell, Kathleen B. Lovell-Gill, Rebecca A. (Matthew) Pratt, Amy S. (James) Lewis, and Andrew J. (Sarah) Lovell; grandchildren Sarah Lovell, Jeffrey, Brian and Amanda Senkiw, Derek and Jennifer Lewis, Adam and Katherine Lovell. It was his request there be no prior calling hours. The Rev. Gary Chorpenning, his pastor, will conduct a Memorial Service in the North Presbyterian Church in Elmira, Saturday, January 25th at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the conclusion of the services. The family will provide their own flowers. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Remembrances may be directed to Southern Tier Hospice; 11751 E. Corning Road; Corning, N.Y. 14830, The Clemens Center; 116 E. Gray St.; P.O. Box 1046; Elmira, N.Y. or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Fudge-Marshall Funeral Home.
