Obituary of William-Arvine Strong


STRONG William " Bill" Arvine Strong, age 86 of Stratford passed into eternal rest on Monday September 17, 2007 at Bridgeport Hospital, following a short illness with his family by his side. Born in Bridgeport on May 15, 1921, he was the son of the late Alexander Burel Strong and Dorothy Isabel Wood Strong, and lived most of his life in Bridgeport and Stratford. Bill was a World War 11 Army Air Force veteran and was honorably discharge as Sergeant of the 1537th Air Force Unit in 1946. He worked for 35 years at the Lindquist Industrial Supply Company. After his retirement he worked numerous years for the Stratford Police Department as a School Crossing Guard at Wooster Middle School. Bill served his community in many ways. He was a 50 year member of Stratford United Methodist Church, a 50 year plus member of St. John's America Lodge 8 AF & AM, member of the Baldwin Chapter, Past Worthy Patron Azalia Chapter 2 OES, Past Commander of Anderson-Dunn-Kochiss American Legion Post 42, Past Quartermaster of the Connecticut Yankee Drum and Bugle Corps and a member of the VFW Post 9460. Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Pearl Estelle (Munigle) Strong; his devoted daughter, Dr. Linda L. Strong, RN; three sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Dr. William Cook of Churchton, Md., Barbara Strong of Bridgeport, and Beryl Deli Bovi of Savannah, Ga. He was predeceased by his brother, John "Jack" Tart. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and life long friends. There will be no calling hours and burial will be private. A memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Dorothy Lansdale Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o Department of Nursing, Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Ave. Fairfield, CT 06825.
