MANCHESTER — William Andre Garand, Jr, 66, of Manchester, passed away at home on Saturday, April 2, 2005.He was born Aug. 29, 1938, in Brunswick, Maine, the son of Alice (Piuze) Garand and the late William Andre Garand, Sr. After graduating from Brunswick High School, he served in the Marines.Upon honorable discharge from the Marines he attended Northeast Broadcasting School in Boston, Mass., and became a disc jockey with radio stations in Vermont and in the Manchester area. While in Vermont, he met and married Sandra Jane (Hartson) Garand.He purchased the Dunkin Donuts shop on Lafayette Road in Portsmouth in the 1970’s and served as the president of the Seacoast chapter of the Kiwanis Club in 1986. Formerly employed at Autofair in Manchester, most recently he operated Bookkeeping by Garand in Manchester. He enjoyed life and had many interests. He was an avid golfer and Myrtle Beach held a special place in his heart. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing and had competed locally.He is survived by his mother, Alice (Piuze) Garand; and sister, Cecile (Garand) Davis of Brunswick Maine; niece and nephew, Tony and Tammy; his aunt and uncle, David and Yvonne Cloutier; his children, Douglas John Miles, Sr. of Albuquerque, N.M., Ricky Lee Miles of Laconia, Cheryl Ann Garand and Nathan David Garand of Rochester; and grandson, Justin Corey Garand. He will be dearly missed by Claire Connelly of Manchester and his golfing buddy, Murphy. He was predeceased by his father, William Andre Garand, Sr.; and daughter, Andrea Marie Garand.William will be interred with his daughter, Andrea, in Portsmouth. His family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to American Cancer Society or your local hospice.
