Memorial service for William A. 'Woody' Morrison, 79, of John Anderson Drive, Ormond Beach who died April 29, 2005 at Alterra Sterling House of Ormond Beach will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at St. James Episcopal Church, 44 S. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach with Father Stephen B. Morris, Rector and Father William Wooten co-officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Morrison was born in Statesville, North Carolina on October 30, 1925 and grew up in Washington, D.C. He moved to this area in 1991 from Chicago, Illinois. An Army Veteran of World War II, during a battle in Southern France he was captured by German Forces and was held at two prison camps, a warehouse and was moved to a town near Wurzburg, Germany where he worked on a farm until liberated. For his military service he received the Bronze Star, Prisoner of War Medal and five other medals. Mr. Morrison was a graduate of Southeastern University, Washington, D.C., with a BS degree in accounting. Mr. Morrison became a Special Agent of the FBI in 1955 and worked in the Chicago, Illinois area until his retirement in 1976 after 31 years of service. Mr. Morrison was also the Midwest Regional Director of Security for ARA Service until 1991 when he moved to Florida. He loved to walk on the beach, dance and travel. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and attended the Daytona 500 and Pepsi 400 each year. Another of his passions was watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, which was an especially happy time for him, even during his illness. Mr. Morrison was a faithful member of St. James Episcopal Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During his illness, he showed great strength, courage and dignity, while struggling with Parkinson's Disease and will be remembered by his family and friends with much love. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Pam Morrison, Lake Forest, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Robert Blanchard, Denver, Colo.; sister and brother-in law, Ruth and William Stallings, Valrico, Fla.; four grandchildren, Ryan and Sarah Blanchard, Henry and Elizabeth Morrison; sister-in-law, Barbara Betts, Ormond Beach, and brother-in-law, William Ball, Gaithersburg, Md. Donations in Mr. Morrison's memory may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 44 S. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach, Florida 32176 or National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33136. Haigh-Black Funeral Home, 167 Vining Court, Ormond Beach is in charge of arrangements.
