WILDRED IRENE FLINDERS Wildred Irene Flinders, 84, of 1225 Third St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday, March 3, 2002 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. She was born July 20, 1917 in Fort Frances to the late William and Sarah Carter. Mrs. Flinders had lived all of her life in Fort Frances. At the age of 16, she had worked as a nurse at the old McKenzie Hospital here. Then following her marriage to Edward, together they operated the Fort Frances Dairy. She loved flowers and plants, and decorated the dairy with her flowers for many years. She also maintained a goldfish pond at the dairy. She enjoyed painting rocks, especially at their cabin on Footprint Lake, and if a rock could be found, she painted it. She also was very artistic, and enjoyed doing ceramics, cooking, cleaning, singing, and pantomiming. She was a very caring and family-oriented person who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 Ladies Auxiliary in Fort Frances. Irene is survived by her two sons, Orlow Flinders and Kerry (Barbara) Flinders, all of Fort Frances, Ont. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Clay (Becky), Jason (Lori), Melissa, Rory (Faye), and Jay (Lori); six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Ally, Jenna, Falon, Farah, and Chase; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was united in marriage Sept. 19, 1936 to Edward Flinders, who predeceased her Dec. 27, 1980. She also was predeceased by her son, Lanny, on Dec. 9, 1972; two sisters, Lillian Becker and Lydia Terry Cook; and her brother, William Carter. A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at a later date. In memoriam donations may be made to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care, 110 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2B7, or to the charity of your choice.
