Wilbur Jay "Jack" Jackson, 89, of Moultrie, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.He was born on March 27, 1924, in Apopka, Fla., to the late Rose Mary Kimbro Jackson and James B. Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie, Ga. Mr. Jackson a native Floridian, grew up in Tampa, Fla. He served in World War II with Army Combat Engineers. He landed on Normandy Beach six days after D-Day. Their mission was to build Baily Bridges for the advancing U.S. Infantry.After the war, he worked for Borden Dairy, as a manager in Cocoa Beach and in Panama City, Fla., where he met his wife, Sarah, a Thomasville girl who was teaching school there.He then worked for Zep Manufacturing Company as a sales rep. until he retired. He enjoyed golf, boating and fishing, and went on several ocean sailboat races with his friends. In 1994, he and Sarah came to Moultrie to be with her sick uncle, Willliam Faircloth on Mack Dekle Road in Moultrie. In 1997, they moved here permanently. He was a member of the Shriners and Masons. Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Sarah Gibson Jackson of Moultrie, Ga.; son, Joel Jackson and wife, Donna, of Panama City, Fla.; daughters, Diane Smith and husband, Dick, of Tampa, Fla, Pamela Yarbrough and husband, David, of Lakeland, Fla., Donna Keener and husband Tom of Lakeland, FL and Karen Jackson of Acworth, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie, Ga with Pastor Arch Baker officiating.
