Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Chapel for Mr. Walter Leon "Pete" Smith, 85, Hokes Bluff, who died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008. Dr. Rodney Gilmore and the Rev. Edwin Schnebel will officiate. Burial will be in Young's Chapel Cemetery. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services is in charge.Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Etowah County. He was a member and deacon of Covenant Christian Church. Mr. Smith was retired from Republic Steel. He was a loving husband of 60 years and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Early and Sally Smith; brothers, Wilburn and Lavon Smith; sister, Mary Gidley; and daughter-in-law, Mary Alford Smith.He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Christine M. Smith; daughter, Cathy (Kenny) Kilgro; sons, Dr. Michael B. (Cathy) Marker and Rodney D. Smith; grandchildren, Chris (Nikki) Marker, Allison (Skip) Hale, Dr. Bradley (Dr. Allison) Marker, Brandon (Amanda) Smith, Mica (Shaun) Mecham and Kody Kilgro; great-grandchildren, Anna and Jake Marker, Ryder Mecham, McKenna, Emory and Peyton Hale and soon to be Greyson Marker; step-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Clyde and Carolyn Reynolds, Joan Spencer, Millard Handley, Felix Firestone, Clifford Eads and Lawton Morris.The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Covenant Christian Church, 3150 Appalachian Highway, Hokes Bluff, Al 35903.Pallbearers will be Chris Marker, Dr. Brad Marker, Shaun Mecham, Brandon Smith, Kody Kilgro, Larry Means, Mark Gidley, Mike Cole, Felix Firestone, Millard Handley, Wesley Heath and Bill Robertson.Special thanks to Dr. H.B.
