Obituary of Walter-E. Goding


GODING, Walter E., 76, died March 24, 2004 at a Zephyrhills, Fla. hospital. He was born March 18, 1928 in Lincoln, the son of George Ernest and Colleen (Clay) Goding. Since the 1940s, Walter was active with various family businesses, and in 1947, he and his dad, "G.E.," started G.E. Goding & Son, which still operates concrete and crushing plants in Eastern Maine. He loved flying planes, fishing, especially ice fishing, and building camps, his favorites were at "Dobsis" and "Hazzards." Walter enjoyed people and was proud to be a small town Maine boy. He had been active in Boy Scouts, was a Maine Black Bears hockey fan, and enjoyed being a part of the Congo Men's Club and the Riverdrivers Supper of the Lincoln Congregational Church. He was a member of Horeb Lodge #93, AF & AM of Lincoln and Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor. He is survived by five children, Jeffrey Goding and wife Susan of Marshfield, Maine, Sue Goding of Lincoln, Maine, Bruce Goding and wife Sharon of Baileyville, Maine, Dale Godi ng and wife Ursula of Lincoln, and Marie and husband Paul LaForge of West Enfield, Maine; 11 grandchildren, Joshua Goding of Marshfield, Gretchen Goding of Brookline, Mass., Nicholas Goding of Bangor, Maine, Bethany and husband Nick Tavernakis of Woburn, Mass., Sarah Goding of Hartford, Conn., Jeremy Goding of Lincoln, Julia Goding of Hermon, Maine, Brittany Goding of Lincoln, Hillary Goding of Lincoln, and Erika and Ian LaForge of West Enfield; two great-grandchild- ren, Kiras and Nicholas Tavernakis; an aunt, Kathryn Graham of Lincoln; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Marietta Teague; a brother, David Goding; and a grandson, Matthew Goding. Friends may call at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road in Lincoln, on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. during which time a masonic memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to either Cancer Care of Maine at EMMC or the Lincoln Congregational Church.
