WALTER THOMAS WILLIAMS - BURLINGTON - Walter Thomas Williams, 82, born Dec. 26, 1931, in Woodside, N.Y., to Robert Williams and Mary Darcy, completed his earthly journey on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2014. On Jan. 29, 1955, he married Jeanne Remsen and together they raised six children in Lindenhurst, N.Y. Jeanne passed away in 1975. In 1984, he married Jean Carney and they retired to Lake Ariel, Pa. She predeceased him in 2002. He moved to Vermont in 2012 to be closer to family. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He recently completed his 60th year as a member of the American Legion, having served as a Post Commander. He was a charter member of the North Lindenhurst Volunteer Fire Dept. and served as a president and a captain of the rescue squad. He was active in the Knights of Columbus in both Pennsylvania and Vermont. He loved all things sports, but was passionate about golf, bowling, and anything his grandchildren played. As a man of deep faith, he was a parishioner of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Burlington. He is survived by his children, Karen (Maurice) Paquette, Nancy (Don) Hespeler, Michele (Randy) Martin, and Christine (Michael) Hotelling; son-in-law, Keith Dunbar; daughter-in-law, Karen Williams; stepchildren, Kathleen (Rob) Bookman, Pat Carney, and Elizabeth (Charles) Bracken; grandchildren, Rochelle and Maurice Paquette II, Jeanne and Kristine Williams, Thomas and Donald Hespeler and Marisa Crooks, Andrew, Lauren and Jason Martin, Matthew, Megan and Marc Hotelling, and Elaine and Sarah Dunbar; stepgrandchildren, Max, Emily and Adam Bookman, Grace Carney, and Devin and Blythe Jeanne Bracken; and great-grandchildren, Evan and Joel Hespeler, and Mallory Crooks. He was predeceased by two children, son, Robert Williams, and daughter, Stephanie Dunbar. The family would like to thank all of the McClure 5 nursing staff for their extraordinary care and support, and also Dr. Dunbar, Dr. Fashoyin and Dr. Kevin Carey. Calling hours are Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St., Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 21, 2014, at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 1251 North Ave., Burlington.
