WADE COTHRANSMITH, II, 78Darl, Inc. GAINESVILLE - Wade Cothran Smith, II, passed away at Shands Hospital, Gainesville, Florida, on June 14, 2013, after undergoing heart surgery. Mr. Smith was born in Hinton, West Virginia, on November 21, 1934. He was predeceased by his parents Helen DeZern and James Lapsley Smith. He is survived by his wife Jane Waggoner Smith, daughters Denise S. Reap (Charles) of Cary, North Carolina and Connie S. O'Shea (Matthew) of Tarzana, California; sisters Garnet Williamson (William), Brooksville, Florida, and Bobbie Smith (J.C. "Sonny") of Winter Haven, Florida; brother James Lapsley Smith (Suzanne) of Ocala, Florida and four grandchildren: Chip and Rebecca Reap, and Ashlea and Laurel O'Shea. He completed his high school education of Oak Ridge, Tennessee where his father was employed as an electrical engineer on the team of the Manhattan Project. At the age of 15, he was selected to serve in Washington, D.C. as the first Capitol Page of Representative Charles Bennett of Jacksonville, Florida. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army with the Military Police Division in Fort Gordon, GA. Mr. Smith graduated from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee, majoring in industrial management. His professional career included sales and marketing positions with Continental Can Company in Rochester, NY, Philadelphia, PA, and Winter Haven, FL, Port Everglades Steel Co., Ft. Lauderdale, FL, J.T. Smith and Sons, Winter Haven, and Plant City Steel Co. in Plant City, FL. In 1973, he founded Darl, Inc. in Bartow, FL, focusing on design and fabrication and commercial conveyor systems and industrial outdoor power equipment. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Winter Haven, FL. Funeral services will be conducted at Burnett Memorial Methodist Church in Sevierville, Tennessee, July 27. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BMMC, 304 Tunis Road, Sevierville, TN, 37876.
