DRACUT -- Virginia "Betty" (Horner) Smith, 73, of Dracut, and a former longtime Bedford resident, died yesterday, Aug. 13, at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. She was the wife of Fred D. Smith, who died in February 2003.She was born in Vermont on April 22, 1932, daughter of the late Henry and Vera (Santaw) Horner. She was educated in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in 1950. A Dracut resident for the past 10 years and she lived in Bedford for many years.Mrs. Smith was employed with Taylor and Lloyd, and CTA, both in Bedford. She retired in 1993.She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Anthony Hunt Hamilton Lodge in Bedford, and the Gilbertson Ladies Club of Medford.She is survived by a son and daughter in-law, Paul and Cheryl Smith of Rockledge, Fla.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Frank Melvin of Chelmsford, Stacey and Jeffrey Nazzaro of Winchendon, and Pamela and John Stander of Westford; her stepfather, Paul Bucuvalas; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
