-> Clyo Ð Mrs. Virginia S. Thomas, 83, died Thursday, September 23, 2004 at Effingham Extended Care Facility in Springfield. The South Carolina native was a homemaker, a member of Corinth Baptist Church and the Order Of Eastern Star. She was a Veteran of WWII, serving her country in the Women's Army Corp., and because of this, the Honorable Olin D. Johnston, Governor of South Carolina bestowed on her the distinction of "Patriot in the Order of the Governor's Maids Militaire of South Carolina." This being officially recorded and done under the seal of the state of South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilford W. Thomas. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel M. and Rebecca Thomas of Springfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Michael & Richard Newell of Clyo; Emily & Russ Billingsley of Davenport, FL; eight grandchildren, Richard J. Newell, III of Clyo; Gilford R. Newell of Clyo; Nathaniel G. Newell of Statesboro ; Jacob L. Newell of Clyo; Larry Rooker of Rincon; Jennifer Rooker of Statesboro; Christina Thomas of Springfield; Sgt. Tommy Duncan of Camp Lejuene, NC; sister and brothers, Betty Smith-Peigler of Charleston, SC; George Smith of Charleston, SC; Wayne Smith of Dayton, NV; and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6 Ð 8 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2004 at Corinth Baptist Church. Interment will be in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Remembrances may be given to the American Heart Association, 103 N.
