Wemmerus MacDonald August 26, 2006 Virginia Ruth Shoemaker Wemmerus MacDonald, 92, a resident of 1491 Virginia Ave., Apt. 206, died Saturday, August 26, 2006 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Mrs. MacDonald was born on July 5, 1914 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Jacob Franklin and Ida Mae Whissen Shoemaker. She lived in New Jersey, Louisiana and in Skaneateles, New York before moving back to Virginia in 1994. Mrs. MacDonald was an active volunteer in many organizations including hospitals, Meals on Wheels, FISH (friends in service helping) and was a member of Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church. On April 3, 1937 she married Frederick Wemmerus, who died on July 8, 1971. In 1973, she married John W. MacDonald who died on January 30, 1988. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Sue Wemmerus, Harrisonburg; Virginia Ann Wemmerus, Columbus, OH; one son, William F. Wemmerus and wife, Sandra, Locust Grove; one brother, Richard Shoemaker, Stockbridge, GA; two grandchildren, Nancy Rosene, and David Wemmerus; two great-grandchildren, Stephen and Andrew Rosene. Mrs. MacDonald is also survived by David MacDonald and wife, Michelle and their son, Jeffrey of Otisco Valley, NY. The Rev. Ben Burks will conduct a graveside service, Friday morning at 11 a.m. at the Singers Glen Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, at the Strite Auditorium in Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community on Virginia Avenue in Harrisonburg.
