Obituary of Virginia-M. Hobbs

Hobbs, Virginia M. "Ginny" CLARKSVILLE Virginia M. Hobbs, 91, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness. Virginia was born at home in Hampton Bays, N.Y. as a triplet. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Annie Meschutt of Hampton Bays and the wife of the late Leonard Albert (Bert) Hobbs, having married in 1949 in North Canaan, Conn. Virginia treasured her friends at the Clarksville Community Church where she was an active member for almost 60 years. She graduated from Hampton Bays High School in 1937 and then from the New York State College for Teachers at Albany in 1941 with a bachelor's of science degree. Ginny was employed by the New York Telephone Co. until adopting two children in 1956. She worked parttime to be near her children at Hanson Tractor Supply in Clarksville, Bethlehem Central Schools, the Delmar Animal Hospital and then Thomas S. Olesko, a plumbing and heating supply company in Colonie, where she worked with her husband until they both retired. They enjoyed traveling to visit the Hobbs family in Montreal and British Columbia, Canada, and the Meschutt families in Long Island, N.Y., Williamsburg, Va., Florida and North Carolina. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and was extensively involved in church activities, often heading different committees. Her faith helped mold her life. She is survived by her beloved daughter Diane C. (William) Laraway of Delmar; granddaughter, Marcy (Ernie) Canterbury of Lansingburgh; two brothers, Thurman (Gladys) Meschutt of Hampton Bays and Frederick (Evelyn) Meschutt of Dix Hills, N.Y.; a sister Ann (Gerald) Mepham of Williamsburg, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Richard A. Hobbs; older twin sisters, Marion (William) Heineck and Marie (Chet) Seibel; triplet sisters, Barbara and Florence Meschutt. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at the Clarksville Community Church. Burial will be in Onesquethaw Cemetery, Clarksville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clarksville Community Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box F, Clarksville, NY 12041. www.applebeefuneralhome.com
