Clark, Virginia M.Sept. 27, 1923 - Jan. 31, 2008Virginia M. "Gina" Clark, 84, Bradenton, died Jan. 31, 2008.Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Siesta Key. National Cremation Society and Memorial Center handled arrangements. Virginia was a resident of the Garden Lakes Community in Bradenton, Fla.Virginia was born and grew up in Binghamton, N.Y., graduating from Binghamton Central High in 1941. Her father, Harry R. Cole, worked for the D&H Railroad; and her mother, Jessie Ross Burgess, was conceived in Thurso, Scotland but born on Grindstone Island on the St. Lawrence River in upstate New York.Virginia worked as a secretary for the U.S. Army Ordnance and also for the Broome County Civil Defense in Binghamton. Her first marriage to Richmond Bennett Millard ended in 1955 when he was killed in an automobile accident near Buffalo, N.Y. Her two children were ages 4 and 6 at the time of his death. She moved back to Binghamton and built a home in Vestal, N.Y., worked part-time in the admitting office of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton and after that, part time in the Guidance Office at Vestal Central High School. She then married Gerald F. Clark in 1958.Gina has been a volunteer at Bradford, Pa., and Sarasota Memorial hospitals. She was also involved in church sponsored programs at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Sarasota, FAME -- a care giving program for migrant children, as well as a volunteer at Sarasota Day Nursery. Gina started working part-time at Conrad Egan in Siesta Village in late fall of 1976 and continued there until January of 2001.Gerry and Gina joined St. Boniface Episcopal Church in 1963. They were active in youth activities for many years, as were their children. They still "commute" to the early service there. Gerry served on the vestry for two terms.Virginia is survived by her husband, Gerald F. "Gerry" of 49 years; a daughter, Linda M. (Alvin) Singleton of Sarasota; a son, Richmond (Ruth D.) Millard of Stroudsburg, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Karen C. Wilkinson of Delray Beach, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Tad Kitchner of Sarasota, Nina, Amy and Alexis Singleton of Sarasota, Sean Millard of Stroudsburg and Paul Carpentier of Atlanta, Ga.Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society, Meals On Wheels, or the St. Boniface Foundation in her memory.
