Waterford - Virginia "Georgie" Lewis, 83, of Quaker Hill, entered eternal life on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at her home in the comfort of her loving family.She was born Jan. 16, 1932, in Richmond, R.I., the daughter of the late Harry and Jennie (Sunderland) Hansen Sr. Mrs. Lewis was a graduate of the former Williams Memorial Institute. She was united in marriage to Remington "Rem" Lewis on June 6, 1953, in the First Baptist Church in New London, Mr. Lewis passed away on Oct. 20, 2013.Mrs. Lewis owned and operated the former Hansen Flower Shop in downtown Norwich for 52 years. She was proud that her business was located in an historic old sea captain's house that she and her sister Elizabeth renovated. She was an active member of the Quaker Hill Baptist Church, served on various church boards and committees. She chaired the annual Christmas Fair for many years, was instrumental in starting the church memorial garden and the Second Hand Rose ministry.Georgie was an avid reader and enjoyed watching old movies on Turner Classic channel. She was an excellent cook, especially making cream puffs and whoopie pies for her family and friends and hosting many tea parties in her home. Georgie and Rem traveled to England, Russia, The Panama Canal and many sea cruises along with dear friends Ann and Gus Stubbs and Arthur and Carol Hansen.She is survived by a son, Richard Lewis and wife, Judy Nelson-Lewis, of Montville; a daughter, Rev. Margaret Lewis of Nashua, N.H.; two grandsons, Trevor and Taylor Lewis, both of Montville; three nieces, Sena Hansen of Georgia, Lisa Dickey of Quaker Hill and Susan Girardin of Franklin; and a great niece and nephew, Heidi and Jason Dickey.She was predeceased by two siblings, Harry Hansen Jr. and Elizabeth Gay.Her family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at her home, 11 Broadview Court, Quaker Hill, for a celebration of life. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, in the Quaker Hill Baptist Church, Old Norwich Road, Quaker Hill. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Quaker Hill.Donations in her memory may be made to Quaker Hill Baptist Church, Old Norwich Road, Quaker Hill, CT 06375 or Center for Hospice Care, 229 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360.The Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, has been entrusted with her care.
